Comfort in heels, a question of shape

Why do some pumps in size 34 hurt?

Plus
You put them on, they are your size, and yet after an hour the pain is there. Under the ball of the foot, always. It is not the heel height. It is the last. On a small foot, the pressure naturally concentrates further forward. If the arch does not redistribute that weight, it all ends up under the toes. The foot tenses, the arch gives way, and it is over.

A pump that does not hurt in a 34 is not a « more comfortable » pump. It is one whose last was designed so the weight falls differently. Our lasts are drawn for a small foot. The difference is invisible. You feel it at the third hour.

Is a high heel harder to wear in a size 35?

Plus
No. What makes a heel unstable is not the size of the foot. It is the position of the heel relative to yours. On a small foot, the heel bone sits closer to the arch. If the shoe's heel is placed a few millimetres too far back, the balance tips and you compensate with every step without even knowing it.

When the heel sits exactly beneath your bone, the weight drops straight. You stop searching for balance; you have it. Our lasts are designed for that. Not a question of courage or habit. A question of millimetres.

What types of heeled shoes can you find in a size 33, 34 and 35?

Plus
All of them. But each type holds the foot differently, and in petite sizes, that difference matters. A pump leaves the top of the foot free: the silhouette is clean, the stride gains elegance. Mary Janes add a strap across the instep: the foot is held, the toes no longer clench to keep the shoe on. T-strap heels go higher with an ankle strap: the hold is complete, even on a slim heel.

The choice depends on what you are looking for. If you are comfortable in heels, the pump is enough. If you want to dance, the strap changes everything. If you want both, the salomé is the answer nobody gives you.

Choosing and wearing

How do you choose a stable pump when you wear a size 35?

Plus
Place the pump on a flat surface. If it rocks or tilts, even slightly, it will do the same under your foot. Then look at the base of the heel: the wider it is relative to the height, the steadier the support. A 6 cm block heel will always be more stable than a 4 cm stiletto. Height does not decide stability. The base does.

Once it is on, take a few steps and watch your toes. If they clench to hold the shoe on, the problem is not the heel. It is the front of the foot lacking support. Our pumps are made for a small foot: the foot rests, it does not grip.

Can you wear stilettos in a petite size?

Plus
Yes. And contrary to what you might think, a stiletto can be perfectly proportioned on a small foot. The foot is lighter, the pressure is more concentrated, the heel bears less weight. What matters is that the rest of the shoe does its job: a toe box wide enough for the toes to lie flat, and an arch that supports the sole of the foot in the right place.

If you want them, that is the only reason you need. Our styles in petite sizes are designed for exactly that: a stiletto in a 34 or a 35, when the last is right, is a choice. Not an achievement.
